Expanding Foam

The expanding foam braces the GPU against the side panel of the computer, protecting it from movement and impact during shipping.

Preparations

  1. Remove the side panel from the computer.
  2. Lay the computer on its side (open side facing up).
  3. Locate the GPU inside the case.
  4. Open the Instapak expanding foam package but do not activate it yet.
  5. Plan the expanding foam placement — the middle of the package should be close to the innermost corner of the GPU.

Applying the Expanding Foam

  1. Activate the expanding foam by popping the bubble marked A. Then alternately press A and B repeatedly until you feel the bag begin to expand.
  2. Place the expanding foam package onto the planned spot inside the case.
  3. Reattach the side panel and close it before the expanding foam finishes expanding, so it fills the space between the GPU and the panel.
  4. Leave the computer closed and allow the expanding foam to fully cure before moving it.

Packaging the Computer

  1. Place foam padding on the bottom of the shipping box.
  2. Lay bubble wrap on top of the bottom foam padding.
  3. Add foam padding along the sides of the box.
  4. Place the computer into the box.
  5. Pack bubble wrap around all sides of the computer until it is snug and cannot shift.
  6. Add bubble wrap and foam padding on top of the computer.
  7. Close the box and seal all edges with tape.
